Got to go fish key largo for a few days right after Christmas. Got down the 27th.
12/28-Ran up to Miami in the 24 Regulator baitfishing all day. Caught a lil over 100 thread-fins and 2 dozen pilchards.
12/29-Took the big boat out with the family and boss man to go sailfishing. Left the dock around 8, and by 8:40 were hoooked up within 5 minutes of puting lines in. Boss Man fought fish almost to the boat and the fish got hot again. Long story short, the starboard trimtab got really hungry and fish #1 was broken off. Still had two baits out in the water at the time and before everyone could get reset i saw the left long was popped out of the clip, I ran over and threw it into free spool hoping that by some magic there had been another fish. 8 seconds later i come tight and another sailfish is greyhounding behind the boat. I fought the fish and had him to the leader in 5 minutes and released him green and healthy. Had one more bite by noon when we elected to go snorkeling. The snorkeling was also a treat, i stumbled upon a 300lb Goliath. Never seen one of them before but they are interesting critters.
12/30- The bite shut off cold but we went anyway. Saw one kingfish and that was it!
12/31- Left the dock at 7:15 in the Regulator. Had the spread set early including 2 off the kite and 2 rigger baits. Trolled for almost an hour before we got cutoff by a wahoo and then shortly after hooked up our first sail. 15 minutes later had the boss man’s step-son’s second ever sail to the boat. Got’em back out and within 10 minutes hooked up on the kite bait. Had that fish released within another 10 minutes. This was by 9:30 or so and that would be all we would do for the rest of the day. Had one more mystery bite on a blue runner but that was it. 2 for 2 on sails, one wahoo cutoff, and 1 mystery bite. Back at the dock by noon and on the ground in Myrtle Beach by 9 last night. All in all it was a great trip! Pictures to come…
