Had a great time and even better fishing. Couldn’t find the fish during high tide as most on here had suggested but we slayed the trout on the low tide on the 14th. 1/2 dozen from 14 to 17 inches in about an hour with some small stuff mixed in. Never caught fish worth mentioning outside of the lagoon. That place is really cool!
Canoe performed admirably, didn’t get blown around too bad. How do you guys deal with those ■■■■ bugs though?!?! I had a great time but I think I left a pint of blood in SC.

Liberal amounts of Deet and Long sleeves!
Nice job fishing. See why we love this place. You going to be able to make it down the weekend of the 9th of November for BARF III?
All of the decent fish were caught on riptide mullets. A red color I found on a discount rack back in TN. As far as tips, don’t know if you guys have something like this but a drag chain worked wonders as opposed to a traditional anchor. River fishing thing that actually worked down there. Actually a lot of river fishing stuff came into play on the lagoon. We would float out with the tide from the parking area and float back, fishing both sides of the low tide. I was amazed we did as well as we did considering everyone I talked to at the parking area hadn’t caught anything.
I might actually talk my wife into coming back within a month so maybe on the BARF thing. What is that by the way?
Also, is there a time of year when the bugs aren’t so bad.
Volfan, Did ya’ll roll through town on Sat am heading out there? I saw a few trucks with a bunch of camping gear and about 4 kayaks and canoes strapped down heading out to Hunting Island while running to get some supplies for neverending honeydo list.

Read the B.A.R.F. 2007 thread above/below this one. It is a fishing tournament/get together with excellent food (Frogmore Stew).
No we were in a corolla with a red canoe strapped on top. Met the guys your talking about though, they were from a kayaking school in GA, mostly pure paddlers. I don’t think they were fishing.
Doesn’t look like I’ll be able to make it down for the BARF, conflict with hunting season back in TN.
I will definitely be making my way back down again sometime and hope to meet up with some of you guys in the future. I’ll just keep lurking on here and hope I can make it to the next BARF.

Too bad, but I understand priorities…
Our next BARF gathering is usually in early May…so shouldn’t interrupt hunting season. We also target Cobia and Sharks then, so bring the big tackle.

Not really. LOL.
Mornin';
...well I've noticed a small window when there doesn't seem to be any bugs in Beaufort. It's between Feb 16 and Feb 17 each year, between the time of 4:32 pm and 5:01 pm :smiley:
