Had to go get surgery on my lower back this past Thursday. This sitting around waiting to heal sucks! Cant lift anything, cant bend over, nothing.
Cant wait to get back out on the water and do some fishing. I think the paddling will make for some great upper boddy and lower back work out. Should help speed recovery too once I get the OK to do stuff again.
As far as loading and unloading the boat, do Hully Rollers make a big difference on ease of loading and unloading? I have never tried any but it seems like they would be a lot easier on my back. I have an older Cherokee and it is not to high but still lifting the boat up on top of the rack could put some strain on the back. I would think that the rollers would be a little better for me. Any thoughts on that one?
They look pretty - but you still have to pick up one end to get the yak up there, then go pick up the other end and slide it onto the rack…I believe their main benefit would be to make the ‘sliding’ part easier - but you’ll still have to lift the kayak up there.
btw - hope you feel better soon!!
I know that I will still have to lift everything up there but I was thinking it would be much less strain on the lower back if I could rest the bow on them and then slide the boat into place. That at least seems easier than having to thrown the whole boat up and over on to the top of the truck. Seems like it would lesson the chance of future injuries.
Just thinking out loud anyway. I have a good bit of down time for the next few weeks so just thinking ahead trying to make things a little easier for myself.
Thanks for the get well.
Doesn’t Yakima make a side-loading kayak rack? I think it is called the Hullavator? That might make loading easier…
