Hey gang, Im looking for a good backcountry/trailside camping spot. Not interested in a camp site where you are set up 15 ft from the site next to you. Looking for legal spots and not just packing up and walking into the woods. Creeks/streams/lakes would be a bonus. Is Jones Gap any good? Thanks for any input.
jones gap is nice, i would get a wma game zone 1map and it will show you where primative camping in allowed
How about an island? Capers Island is supposed to be pretty awesome stuff. You won’t have a lot of walking trails or such, but you could kayak around through the creeks.
Linville Gorge Wilderness. Been going there for 18 years and just got back today from a 3-night trip. Some of the most rugged, isolated, and unforgiving terrain east of the Rockies. Take any number of trails off of Old NC 105 (Kistler Hwy) and go until you hit the river. Guarantee you will fall in love…

Ellicott Rock Wilderness cant go wrong here. Been many times. On the Chattooga River in the upstate. Beautiful scenery and great trout fishing. Beware. We did see a Bear and 2 cubs about 4 years ago.

Burrells Ford is another option with primitive camping. The campsites are closer together but not on top of each other. You can walk for miles and miles down the Chattooga River on the Appalachian trail. Be sure to check out Kings Creek Falls next to the Burrells Ford camping area. About 70 feet straight drop. You can walk right below it. Good luck. Hope I helped.

Thanks for the info, ill look into some of these sites. Weather should be cooling off soon and it be nice to get out in the woods for a bit.
I’ll second Burrell’s Ford…
Ellicott Rock x 2. Devil’s Fork is nice also. Linville Gorge is an awesome place. I have caught some decent fish there, but it can involve some serious trekking. Deepest gorge east of the Mississippi.
