I’m sure this deer would have walked for most of y’all. I’ve lived/hunted on this little piece of land/swamp just outside of cottageville for just over 10 years now. This is the first buck I’ve taken off my own land. I’ve taken a few does and hogs but never seen any bucks I wanted to shoot. I honestly thought this guy was a 1.5 year old when he walked up behind my climber this morning. He walked up almost under my stand, then made a 90 degree turn and started heading away. I grunted at him at 15yds and stopped him. Put my sights from my 870 in the middle of his neck and fired. He dropped on the spot. 2 3/4" 000 buckshot to the back of the neck did the trick. Kind of an odd shot but it worked. No neck roast on this guy, but rest of the meat is good Tiny little rack, 5 points. I don’t eat horns anyways. 161 lbs on the hoof.

Thanks. You got that right. These woods around me are heavily dogged, driven and poached on.

Like you said you can’t eat the antlers. . Good shooting!

Congrats.

That’s a healthy deer and at 160lbs, a little better than the average deer that come through a processor on any given day. Nothing wrong with that at all.

To harvest a deer on your own property is something very special. Congratulations!

No shame on your game.Good shootin.

Nice work!
