Beautiful day on the water with pretty light boat traffic compared to last tuesday. That being said the 8 speed boats, you know the ones who always race up and down the lake in the summer?, have no business up in the river. Someone WILL get hurt. They came around a bend and across a point that i know is full of stumps sitting about level with the water.I have marked some of them on my gps so i know NOT to run in there. It was really kinda scary just watching them do so.
Anyways to the fishing. Did the norm pulling boards and floats in 4-12’ of water. Nothing special to write home about. Not a ton of birds and no real schooling action. 12 fish with 9 being keepers biggest about 6#.
Haven’t kept many fish lately but had a buddy who was out of striper from the summer who needed to restock. Decided to keep a couple for myself. Hence the “bacon wrapped” subject.
Just showed that to my fam. I was planning on frying my stripers from yesterday; however, plans just changed. We’ve got bacon and I’ll stop for more charcoal. It’s on! Thanks for sharing!
That looks good. Did you add any other seasoning on it before wrapping? I’ve been wanting to try something different, but I have a hard time getting away from beer battered striper.
Salt, pepper, garlic, and cilantro before the wrap. Then dusted with old bay after the wrap. Have to keep an eye on them pretty close. Bacon and charcoal make a wonderful taste, but it also makes a big fire if not watched and moved around often.
My wife doesn’t care too much for fried food so I usually marinate the “shoulders” of the fillets in Kikkoman Teriyaki and toss them on the grill. Served with a dab of Wasabi. I use the thinner fillet sections to make fish soft tacos.
Did my own bacon wrapping tonight… Delicious! It’s a great flavor combo! I seasoned the striper with Webers lemon pepper, light garlic salt, and Old Bay. I folded the fillets over since I only had one pack of bacon then wrapped and toothpicked. With coals at 375, I put them on the top rack and turned every 5 minutes for a total of 20 minutes on the grill… Major yum! You’re only limited by your imagination with regard to seasoning.
