Bahamas Bonefishing

Im taking a trip to Bimini after christmas, does anybody know about the bonefishing down there at this time of year?

Which Island… North or south?? Accomidations? Boat availability? Experience??

Ive been to Bimini a few times… I may be able to help…

North. We will have a 26 ft boat down there so ill be able to get most places but im thinkin about booking a guide if the fishing is decent. 2 yrs fly experience, but never been bonefishing.

“all this for a fish”

Well a 26 footer won’t get you close enough to most of the flats there… and without much experience I would say a guide is your best bet. That Island is known for its BIG bones… you won’t see numbers like in other places but you will see size…

Ask around… Bonefish Ebby is one of the best on the island… $350 a day if I remember right.

Start practicing your casts… these fish won’t give you a chance to mess up more than once…

Good luck to you…

Even if the flats are accessible by big boat and you could get out and wade, you should hire a guide just for his eyes. Spotting bones takes some experience and the guides usually have magic eyes for it.

Most of the flats there you won’t be able to reach in a 26 footer… I have a 19’ bay boat there and I can barely get close enough to wade… You can rent kayaks on the North and paddle them out to the flats on the interior of the island… There are fish there. Bu PB is right… seeing bonefish takes alot of time and practice… Ive been at it for a few years now and I’m not even very good… And then when you see them, catching them is a whole other thing…

Call up Ebby… he will put you on them.
