Bahamas recession

Atlantis is empty. About 7 boats in the marina. There was rusty water from the shower- no occupancy of the room in a while I guess. I heard nearly 1000 rooms have been closed. If it wasn’t for cruise ship day visitors it’d be a ghost town. Casino on a saturday night- 1 craps table and 0 baccarat tables with people.

The entire island of New Providence treats its visitors like they are 3 day tourists. Terrible gouging at every turn. People got sick of it.

Drop the rates a bit, and people will return. The last thing you want to do in a tight economy, is raise your prices. That place is VERY expensive already. Without rate reductions, I would be surprised if it has many people at all.

PS: If a fly lost it’s wings, would it be called a walk?

rates are down to $199/night at Royal Towers; $229 at upscale Reef with little kitchenettes. In-resort restaurants still quite high but you can eat off site. Heck you can walk over the bridge and eat at Outback or McDonald’s if you like.

I need to find a decent day charter. Anyone???

You’ll find your best local food under the bridge at Potters Key(cay). The Stalls are all pretty good, the best one I recall was Penders for conch fritters and steamed fish(they call it grilled). Its fish with citrus onions and stuff wrapped in foil and thrown on the grill. There is good conch salad too, just ask around.

The people at paradise island tend to let you believe that its dangerous to cross the bridge and go onto Bay St.

Good luck on the charter. They usually just go to the ledge and troll for wahoo and don’t really look for any fish. They are turning a buck the cheap way.

There used to be a great Belgium place not far off Bay for dinner–Brussels Brasserie, not sure if its still there. Great Lamb and beef and real french fries for dipping into homemade Mayonaise. Then for dessert, the best crepes ever in all the land.

Just got back Sunday night; will be back over Halloween weekend. Will look for B Brasserie then. My usuals are Cafe Matisse, Luciano’s, Ocean Club and Poop Deck for Happy Hour. Always looking for some new suggestions so thanks!
