Left dock at 6:30 and finally found bait at 8. Ran out to 100 feet in flat seas to catch some undersized bsb. Then moved on to 130 feet: 30 vermillion, two Cobia, 1 cubera snapper, 1 keeper grunt, 5 ajs. 15-20 lost rigs. Time to move out to Deeper water. Started running and saw a mahi sky at 400 yards off course. We went over there to find some scattered good sized weed patches. Pitched in some chunks of menhaden to see if anything came around… And they did, along with some nice baits to sabiki. We spent the next three hours fighting, breaking off, and catching slinger mahi around a collection of weed patches. I use 12 lb spinning outfits and the action is quite sporting. I had 30 lb fluorocarbon leader and lost quite a few bigger ones at the sling. Then I discovered how tough it is to net them. Then, the gaff came out. We wound up with 30. The ride in was as smooth as it gets. Great day on the water.
