Bait at Larry Koon

David is selling bait out of Koon on the weekends these days. Give him a call or text if you wish to launch there and get bait in the morning.

Fogman, I got out very late this afternoon. Tried the green fish first, but just had to throw to some schooling stripers in our neck. Managed to boat one 26"er and missed a few more on top. If you’re out tomorrow and not doing much, it might be worthwhile for you to head toward our neck. Just look for the water splashing 2 or 3 feet high or look for us. We’ll probably be out there around 9:30 after a morning deer hunt.

Thanks for the info and good to hear from you Spoonmaster! Might have to come check that out whether I do well at my planned stops or not.

Only got one deer this morning.
Got a late start fishing. We did manage to catch 6 largies, all on soft plastics. We quit fishing around 1:00. Didn’t see many schooling fish so we tried the spoons for about the last 15 minutes of our day. I lost one good fish and had another around 24" or 26" to the boat when the hook pulled loose. Stripers were on the deep side of our neck between 25’ and 35’ deep. Both hookups were on chartreuse spoons.

Had a rough start yesterday morning. Went to turn on my air pump for the bait well and nothing. After poking around for the better part of a half hour, I found the butt connectors were fried. So I dug around for some extra wire and a gator clip and got the pump running again. However, when I went to put the nut back on the negative, I dropped it where I couldn’t get to it and had to dig in the truck tool to find a wing nut off another battery. Had David back me in, but the motor wouldn’t turn over. Back in the lot, I tightened the wing down with an adjustable wrench and was back in action, missing the best part of fishing day.

I did get 2 27 inchers, a host of shorts, and a bonus big crappie. Spoonmaster, we’ll have to take a look at your cove on the way to weigh-in Saturday if we still need fish.

Fogman, I tried them again late yesterday afternoon for about an hour. Didn’t get a hit on top or on the spoons. Either I got out too late or they had moved to a spot I didn’t get to try. Saw some brief schooling activity on my side of the neck, but I think they were small fish. I’ll be keeping an eye on the water after work for the next couple of weeks. They should be more active here soon.
