I have always used fish meal and clay. I am planning on switching to baitfinder. Who sells it and who is the cheapest?
You can order it off of the bait binder website and west marine and Haddrells have it too but I don’t know who’s the cheapest I’m sure there all with in $5 of each other

Thanks guys and Good Luck this year,
ACE in Goose Creek $26 for the big bag
Please purchase Bait Binder from your local tackle shops when possible. You can’t put a price on the information, fellowship, and local shrimping knowledge these guys are able to provide. Plus, they will have all your other shrimping supply needs. Most importantly, have fun shrimping this year. We all love the big catch, but there is no substitute for being on the water.
Charleston Angler had some recently
Just curious when using baitbinder, approximately how many bait balls do you average per bag?

This is dependent on the size. Go with something close to a hockey puck and use two per pole. If the shrimp are there, you will not need more. To be more specific, these will weigh around 1/4 pound giving you about 20 per 5# bag. Happy Shrimping.
BTW you still need clay with baitbinder but, it’s good stuff

I stand corrected dg- I thought I had a bag of Baitbinder but, it was not. It was a bag of Shrimpers Choice. I add clay and flour to it. Not a ready to use mix. My shrimping partner got a bag of the real deal and hope to try it out soon. Having more than 50% meal does make it better. My bad.

No you don’t. It sticks together with just adding water. No clay necessary.

15lbs of bait binder is $25 = $1.66 per lb. Fish Meal and clay is $60 per 100 lb. = .60 Per lb Thats $1.00 Lb Cheaper. Thats $100 cheaper per Season (I use about 100lbs per season) Is it worth it to switch? I have held out for the last couple years for this reason. I guess if I was in it for the Money Id go the fish market.
I’ve found that i use much less when using baitbinder. 1/2 to 1/3 of what i would use with meal and clay. it holds up much better over the course of the night and doesn’t dissolve as fast. So the $$ per trip used is probably a smaller gap than you think. Plus it is so much easier to work with and clean up.

Its cheaper in the long run. I use way less of it and not to mention the ease of use and cleanup. It also seems to last longer in the water. I have used it side by side with a buddy who was using clay/meal in his boat in the same area. There was virtually no difference in the catch between the two boats. I am through with fish meal and clay.

Well I’m going to get some Tomorrow and make bait for the weekend. I do like the idea of having an extra bag in the boat. Ill make smaller balls and try it out. I’m ready for Friday.
Not to hijack the thread, but I have some Bait Binder left over from last season, still in the zipper bag that it came in. Still good ya think?

If it still smells fishy, then yeah. If it smells like ammonia, throw it out. I’ve still got a little bit left from last year also, going to use it tomorrow.

Btw, “Keeblerkidd” I think you ment 50lb fish meal $60 not 100lb, if I am incorrect then let us all know where we can 100lb for $60 because that’s what 50lb is going for round here, just saying…
