Just wanted folks to know the Herrng are still easy to catch near Jakes Landing. I had to throw 4 or 5 times before I hit them square but I could barely lift the net over the rail on the last throw. I haven’t had to buy bait for a Murray trip all summer. One day soon I’m going to put in there and they will be gone and I will have to go to plan B but for anyone else wondering if they are still there…yes they are.

Yeah, I put in at first light so I can see them on the surface…hard to see them in the dark or when its too windy…and you need a fast sinking net…I haven’t tried catching them in the middle of the day or evening but if you can see them on the surface then you should be able to catch them…

I fished Monday by myself but the bait catching was tough. The wind made them impossible to see on the surface. I circled the whole cove and then went over to PowerPoint to take a look over there where some coves were more sheltered from the wind. I tossed some topwater baits to schooling stripers and then finally saw some herring on top that I could catch. With herring in the tank I went over towards Pine Island to downline near the deep water for a big fish but it didnt work out. I caught a couple small stripers near the condos and then retreated from the storm back to Jakes. I saw a school of stripers come up briefly in Jakes Cove over 70 ft of water on the way back in but they disappeared before I could catch one. I wound up with 4 stripers for the day and none were over 21 inches…

I was out last night, there were schools of tiny bait on the surface everywhere. There were 20 different schools in site at any time. None were big enough to be caught in 3/8" mesh. Fish were also very scattered. Didn’t see any schooling.
