Bait Fish

Hi all,
Im new to fishing Charleston area. I put my jon boat in @ Paradise Island landing. Twice in the last two weeks I’ve put in and seen mullet all over the place and twice hardly seen any at all. Weather has been nicer on the positive days and certainly colder when they havent been around. Tide has been pretty low on all occasions.
I guess my question is: will they be more consistent as the weather gets warmer or will the feast or famine scenario hold constant? Also, when do the pinfish usually show up around docks/piers?

Much appreciated!

Hello and welcome to the forum. Hopefully one of the experts will chime in on this. I am not one of them but there are plenty who post regularly. I can tell you that as it warms up the baitfish will become more abundant and more consistent and easy to find. I am not sure about when the pinfish will show up. I have not started seeing any baitfish to speak of down here around Edisto yet but the water temps are warmer every time I go out.

Thanks! Until then I’ll bring some “back up” frozens (unlike yesterday ) and keep tossing artificials!

More bait fish show up with warming waters. Once they show up they will be abundant. During the summer you can catch as many finger mullet and shrimp as you want. The pin fish will start showing up more and more as the water warms as well.
