I was looking to try to catch some bait to save for later on days when I don’t have time to take my boat out. Is it legal to park on the side of the road and throw a cast net for bait?
As long as you’re not in a no parking zone and not trespassing you should be fine. Never had a problem anywhere in Mt P or West Ashley. In West Ashley its actually quite common at high tide to see vehicles all around any road that crosses over water or is right next to it.

My suggestion is go to the spot at low tide and check it out on a day that you are not trying to get bait. If it’s next to the road, there is a likelihood of trash/debris or otherwise that you may not see at a higher tide. It sucks to ruin a cast net on a rusty bicycle or car parts. Also gives you an opportunity to scope out the deeper holes and check for oyster beds (more snags)
Just my 2 cents.

Low tide also is easier as long as you beat the other guys there if it is a popular spot. Those small roadside bait holes are easily wiped out when its low tide. I’ve went to the one I usually go to and there was several other people there and everyone was a gentlemen about rotating cast, I was surprised and it was appreciated. I found that the shopping cart is as common as the bicycle. 2 carts 1 bike some computer parts and a briefcase are amongst the oddities I have snagged, thiefs like to ditch things
