The local otter will be well fed.

Too much air bubbling damages the phospholipid layer on the gills and gives the fishes pulmonary edema, sure you can understand try to do without the bubbles except short term in the boat
How does a fish get pulmonary edema? They don’t have lungs.
Stone will be just below the water surface.

Pretty much every aquaculture and/or research facility uses airlifts and air-driven stones. Confused by your post.
The surfactant on their gills stablizes the membranes accross which the oxygen must pass and if the membrane becomes damaged it doesn’t transport oxygen effiently. I was borrowing PE as diagnosis because I thought Joe could translate it into why too many bubbles for too long are bad. At least that’s the way the fish biologist explained it to me. Certainly air bubblers can be used and are needed it’s a question of how many bubbles are too much from what it understand. I bet there is a biologist here that knows if this really true or not, how about anyone? This is supposedly the same reason that tiny bits of left over detergent in the bait well is deadly.
I will just break the water surface. The pen is now in salt water.Just bought a garbage can from lowes. Will start drilling holes today.

Here are some people that know more about air bubbles than me.
I still may have to do this come July.Aug.O2 may be very low in my creek??? I will check every day and see how the minnows do.Shrimp may be a problem.

Sorry I have not been home early lately, here are the bait pen pics, Joe we bought a bag of catfish food and we feed our trapped as well as wild minnows once a day. One bag lasts years.
Can’t get 2nd pic to load, (**() satellite internet will send later. Basically a flat 1/8 sheet with 2 1/2 square tube welded to it then 1 1/4 band added for the size of the can.
PS: that hinge is about $7 at West Marine and is pop riveted on
note pad for knees
You have some great water.i have maybe 1.5 feet on low tide.I bought same can you have. Thanks for the info

On real low tides the bucket bumps bottom and stands up out of the ring, when the tide comes back it usually settles back down without assistance. I do have holes in the bottom so it is not so heavy to lift when pulling out. I use dip net to get bait and leave the bucket down except to clean it when grass grows on it.
Mine is fixed in position.I do like the hoop idea but have no way to get one made.
