last weekend when i was out while playing with the cast net in the surf i was able to net several big mullet and the pogy pods are still out there. ive been catching sharks and sail cats while paddling around with a squid skirt about 5 feet below a downrigger (get way more hits a few feet down than the surface) but im wondering about the mullet. the water is about 20 feet deep where im paddling and aside from sharks and sail cats the silver king likes to shop up often too. i havent caught a king, cobia, tarpon, or jack crevalle yet, but would pulling a 10" mullet be more likely to get a big gamefish than the 4 - 5" menhaden or am i better off with menhaden? by no means am i unhappy or frustrated catching sharks as fast as i can catch up to a pod, but of course towing back a king or cobia would be fun too. any thoughts on the big mullet?
