They are good for allowing the fish to “eat” the bait before setting the hook. So mainly for sharks, or any situation when you are free-lining the bait.
I love mine. As said allready, great for free lining.
Umm, you gonna eat that?©
Thousands have died to save my freedom. Only one has died to save my soul!
Great for top water live bait. Cobia or Kings.
With 25lbs of drag, the larger one (12000D) can be used for live bait bottom fishing. Below is a picture of mine.

I use mine for everything from catfish and stripers in the lakes to sharks and reds at the jetties and even do a little surf fishing with my 2500 on a longer rod. Probably my favorite all purpose reel for around here. Troll blues and jacks in the harbor too.

I absolutely love them. I have the 4000, 8000, and 12000. As stated they are an excellent option for live baiting or leaving a bait on the bottom. Caught whiting to small bluefin!

You can troll the harbor? that’s my bread and butter back in NY, used to troll St. Lawrence rvr, and Lake Ontario for trout, salmon, and smallies, tell me about it, what type of lures? Spoons, plugs, deep divers, count downs? etc… how far behind do you drag the lines? water is so clear up north i used to troll 100-175 ft behind 8-25 ft deep.
