Bait still in creeks? Need intel for MAD

Taking the troops fishing on Sat for MAD and looks like conditions will force everyone to find protection from the wind inshore.
Thinking shrimp/mullet/MM under corks and on bottom.
Anyone still seeing a lot of bait in the creeks catchable at low tide?

I would love to know the same. I’m a professional desk jockey, so I haven’t been out in two weeks. If there is any bait, at least it will be low tide early in the morning which should make it easier. I’m taking my troops out of Shem Creek. Where are you fishing out of? I don’t mind exchanging bait info the morning of.

Same here. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Especially any locations that might be good to try with a 30’ center console. Been offshore fishing for years, so any help to show these guys a good time would be appreciated. You can PM me if you don’t want to post to the masses. I promise I’m not an inshore fisherman, so I won’t be stealing your spots.

I fish out of Folly, but Yes, mullet and shrimp in mouths of feeder creeks and shallow banks at low tide . Can’t go wrong with live shrimp under a cork for trout or cut mullet on the bottom for reds. As a fall back, White gulp shrimp or Silver glitter with chartreuse paddle tails rigged either weedless or on a 1/4 eye strike jig head. Good luck, great cause, wish I was going to be in town for it.

I caught shrimp this afternoon.

My intel is 2 weeks old, so maybe useless by now. But we caught mullet and shrimp up in the creeks at that time.

Also for all the MAD Captains, if you do Facebook, join us in this closed group. I created this group for the purpose of sharing more specific info that you may not be willing to out in the open internet. Only MAD Captains can see it, and I’ll have to approve requests to join. That way we can post whatever we want in the group, like one big PM. And with the integrity of the Captains we draw in, I don’t think there’s any reason to worry about exploiting secret info for personal gain outside of MAD.

Depending on where you are fishing. I can tell you that the bait is THICK in most creeks. More than enough good size mullet for you to use for popping corks or on bottom rigs. Shrimp can be caught on the banks in the Wando from mid to low tide. If you want to throw a MM trap out, I have no doubt you would be able to get a couple dozen in 30-45 min or so. Plenty of bait to be found and as the water temps fall, the bite will get even more pronounced. Not quite below that 70 degree mark but when it happens, the fall fishing will be in full swing. Bait will typically be around until water temps reach around 50 degrees. Hope that helps and good luck this weekend. Hoping the wind lets up and gives everyone a nice day for a great cause.

plenty of bait still in the creeks. if putting in at Shem and tide low you wont have any problem catching bait on the bank on the way out of creek. just start right when you leave the ramp. lots of shrimp and finger mullet

I spent the day in Pawley’s creek yesterday in my kayak…the finger mullet were so thick I swear you could’ve dipped them up with a net.

There was plenty of shrimp and mullet in Clouter creek Monday.

Anyone find bait in the creeks today? There’s been a significant change in the weather in the last 48 hrs and that’ll continue today into tomorrow. Not sure how this cold front impacts the bait movement.

I stopped by the Shem Creek boat landing this morning about 7:45, just after low tide. I didn’t see any bait around.

Yes mullet are still in the creeks. Saw a ton today. If your really worried take a bucket and a net and go to Sullivan’s and catch them right off the beach. Also bring an airstrip. I have used all artificials today and had a slam.

Put in at Shem on Saturday AM with the intent of netting some shrimp and FM. Didn’t see a single FM and only got about a dozen shrimp from a single spot under a dock walkway. My guess is the water has cooled off enough that the shrimp have pushed deep or offshore. Ended up running to Hadrells for MM and shrimp.
