Ok, need some input on my bait tank, live well options on my boat. What would be the best option? I have a smaller front tank in front of the center console that holds about 10 gallons and a much larger option in the stern that will hold 20+ gallons. Both easily accessible to connect an aerator to one of my batteries. With that said, are the aerators that connect to a battery a good option to keep the herring lively? Thanks for the input!
Save up and by an insulated tank…period
But with what your wanting to do buy the big marine metals brand aerator. Think it comes with 2 connections for 2 airlines/stones. Hook it up with a toggle switch to you battery. Couple guys on here use this method but they also have 50-60gal livewells built into their boats versus your 10 and 20gal…

I use the Marine Metals Power Bubbles air pump in my 33 gallon aft livewell and routinely keep up to 10 dozen average herring for a day’s fishing with little or no dead-loss. It’s always worked for me; however, a tank with filtration is a must if you are attempting to keep bait for multiple days.

Thanks! Good to hear others are using the power bubbles set up. That is one of the ones I was looking at. Walmart & Academy have them for $33. Guess that’s my next purchase!

My boat has a 35 gallon aft tank built in. The regular little bubbler works all day just fine with little to no bait keeling over. Had a much nicer one but it bought the big one awhile back. Stopped by Richards and picked it up-works great for 6-8 hour trip. Hope this helps - also helps when really hot to keep some ice in it also.

Thanks Triton! My tanks have the recirculating option but hear the warm water will take them out fast! Wasn’t sure how many herring I could keep in the smaller tank once I get the aerator hooked up. I have been putting ice on them as well. Trial & error!

I wouldn’t bother with the 10 gallon tank. The 20 gallon will keep them alive. I used to use an igloo cube with a keep alive in it. I got a deal on a 30g vest and passed on the cube to murrymaker. Discovered there is a big difference between alive and healthy.

Steely, what kind of aerator are you using in the cooler? The same as the others with the Marine Metals w/dual air tubes connecting it to the battery? Thanks for the input!
