bait tank project

Was able to pick this up yesterday. 50gal no name insulated fiberglass tank w/filter box. It has a spray bar but has been unhooked and a venturi system installed. This thing takes really good pics…lol…it needs alot of work and TCL.

Have anyone seen one like this? Brand name? What do y’all think about the intake pipe running into the middle? Was thinking of moving it back to the wall like most tanks but figured i would gather opinions.

I’m pretty sure that’s a Steve Baker (from Tennessee) tank. He used to publish a striper magazine, Trophy Striped Bass, and is still a guide in TN I am told. I had his 30 gallon tank and used it for years without a problem. James Cassell had one also. Tough, but heavy. I converted mine to a Dannco aeration system and it worked extremely well.

A friend of mine has one like it a Baker. I have one of the orignal 25 gal that had a paddle wheel in it.

I believe the reason he has the return in the middle is because the scales and other debris will settle in the middle instead of going through the filter. Also, I remember reading some saltwater bait tank studies some time back in the SKA magazine that stated in some tanks where a lot of debris settles in the center of the tank, those tanks can have some water that does not mix at a high enough rate and becomes almost stagnant with less oxygen and in warm weather can be a serious concern.
