I have a live well on a 18ft boat but it does not aerate water. Thinking ab out a portable bait tank for live bait fishing this summer. What would you do? If so, what would you look for? Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks,

First I would see if you could have the existing tank plumbed. I would do it with a high speed pick up and a pump. With the pick up and pump you will make sure you are turning water at rest and running. If you can’t make that one work I would order an after market bait tank and plumb it and make a cooler/storage are out of the existing tank. Best choice would be to make what you have work as the aftermarket will take up deck space.

Adding a free standing live bait tank to 18’ boat takes up a lot of room and will splash alot! It would make a lot better project to up date your existing tank! Shouldnt take much if you can get to it to plumb! Good luck!!
Had a tank for additional bait a few years back. I don’t ever want to do that again.
Unless properly secured it WILL move around the boat and in a 17’er it WILL have a negative affect!!!

I put one in an 18.5’ Sea Pro dual console. Did it because the existing well sucked. I used a 13 gal oblong tank which I plumbed the way I wanted it, secured with Kodiak fittings. Would rather have a built-in tank, but I’d do it again. In fact, I did on an older Grady T-22 with a livewell that sucks … [:I]
Ditto to Reely Old. I put a 13 gal oblong in my Grady T-19 that had nothing. Used SS brackets to secure it in front of the splash well on the centerline. High speed pick up and pump. Its been great.

Add a recirculating pupm to your livewell and you are good. If warm water is an issue, throw a frozen blue ice pack in there every couple of hours and you will have zero issues.
