Anyone bought bait this week. Got some bait last weekend that was tiny. They were herring, but threadfin sized. I’m probably heading out tomorrow and may target crappie if that is the only bait available.
Been wondering the same thing. Was kicking myself for not bringing back my bait from Hartwell after hearing the bait had gotten tiny in the shops.

I ran into David at the boat ramp as he was getting off the lake Tue? night. I didn’t see them, but he said he got them pretty good and they were decent size. He said they had to stop going to Santee because those big jumbo salt water herring got so thick it was hard to catch any others.
Chip, I know what you are thinking…LOL , but not everyone owns two 50 gal tamks!!

Where in Santee area do they catch the big herring? Can you get them on a sabiki?
Can I borrow your towel? My car just hit a water buffalo.
Not sure why that would be a problem, They sell for a buck each. I don’t know who I’m kidding, I’ll be chasing striper no matter what. I always say I’m going to go after crappie and catfish but just can’t leave the stripers. I sometimes wish my first SC stiper wasn’t 30#'s so i wouldn’t be so obsessed.

Haven’t been in about three weeks, but herring on the santee river (Wilsons landing) were thick. Could catch the limit on sabiki rigs in no time. Most were big roe herring.

If the baits are small, I have more confidence fishing them as cut bait and put a few chunks on each hook. Should be about that time of year and you are likely to pick up some cats too.
That’s what I plan on doing tomorrow afternoon/evening if the baits are small. That or/and troll some.

The Murray bait everyone is catching is great size right now. Buy bait from David or Richard and you should not be disappointed. I had some 6-7 inches in the well Wednesday evening… Yes. I caught good fish! Will be more informative again after tomorrow’s tx.

New member here, but, Lake World has had some nice sized herring the last week. A few small ones, but most were 5-6 inches.

[sigh] I will never catch a catfish on this stupid (because I don’t know how) lake … I couldn’t even “catch” the one you threw at me from your boat … missed it and just had to stand there on my boat watching it … sink
it’s my Wife’s fault we HAVE to fish now!!!
