Does anyone know of any bait shops/markets that sell frozen mackerel for catfish bait? If not who has the best frozen bait around the lake Moultrie area. This is going to be my first time fishing the lake for cats so any helpful tips would be much appreciated.
You would be better of buying live herring, threadfin or gizzard shad and putting them in a zip lock bag on ice. Frozen bait is usually mushy when unthawed and doesn’t stay on the hook well. This time of the year fish 2 to 3 hours before sunrise till they quit biting or late in the day into the night.

About all the big landings sell live bait. On the Canal, Hills, Canal Lakes and Blacks all sell live bait. Santee cats not fond of frozen, mushy baits.
