Generally a fast tip for spinnerbaits and a medium to medium fast for crankbaits

I like a more limber rod for crankbaits so you don’t pull the hooks when the fish makes a run and it lets the fish get the bait better. Spinnerbaits I like a medium to medium heavy. My rule of thumb is anything with treble hooks gets a softer action and anything with J hooks gets a heavier action b/c treble hooks tend to pull much easier.
I just bought a teramar medium heavy for spinnerbaits and such. Feels really heavy compared to my compre’s. I fished spinnerbaits with my compre and it felt way to limber.

Do you think I got to stiff of a rod?

Fast for Cranks, so it can flex and roll off of cover. KVD uses those custom fiberglass cranking rods that are super flexy for that reasons. Spinners I like something a bit stiffer, like a medium or medium fast.
And I use a MH for spinnerbaits, cranks, and jigs. Plastics, I use medium with a fast tip, unless i throwing a big fish plastic, then I will use a MH. I know most people run MH on plastics all the time, but i feel the medium helps with the flippin and all that.
Thanks, White Taco. I guess I’m use to the really light compre’s. The Teramar is a lot heavier. When I would throw spinners with my compre’s it looked like I had a fish on.

The key to finding the balance is, you want the flex to cast, and to be able to set the hooks, but not so flexy where it doubles over crankin a deep diver. But then its gunna be too heavy if your throwing and cant feel the crank wobble, or bump off cover. What length did you get?
