Baited shrimp flavor

Does anyone with a tuned set of taste buds ever notice a difference in flavor between shrimp caught over bait and “clean” shrimp," those caught deep holing, directly off shrimp boats etc?

we can sense some grit in shrimp caught over bait, but I don’t have a refined enough palate to actually detect a different flavor…

I’ve noticed it. Only seems to show up when shrimp don’t properly chill. Make sure if you are really catching large amounts fast that you have plenty of ice and put on them right away.

Don’t sell yourself short, you’ve written some mean food reviews here with some pretty fancy words.

You can taste the bait sometimes. It really depends on the size of the shrimp and how long they were on the bait when you caught them. I do notice it from time to time, but it doesn’t bother me or anyone else when I cook them.

Gentlemen! Honestly, it should not matter if it’s over bait or not. If you have any “poop line” at all in your shrimp you’re not cleaning them correctly. When holding the shrimp by the antennae, squeeze where you normally would but don’t pinch all the way through the shrimp. Think “90 percent” of a pinch. Then pull down on the shrimp and the head will stay attached to the entire poop line, removing the line and everything in it. Perfectly clean meat. Keep in mind this will only work if the shrimp are super fresh and/or super cold. If the shrimp warm up at all after dying the “poop line” will lose it’s integrity and remain in the meat no matter what you do. We’ve been doing this for years and the result is amazing. No poop, no crunch, no yuck. These is nothing worse than going to all of the time, work and expense of shrimp baiting and then biting into a crunchy t*rd…

I think the taste rumor is simply people eating fresh shrimp for the first time.they taste different than any grocery store or restaurant bc they haven’t been bleached and sprayed with chemical.fresh shrimp rather bait or boat have a flavor. Most first timers I’ve seen say it taste funny

Mr. Baitball,

LOL…

We put Cheetos in our bait balls.
Gives the shrimp a little crunch.
