Baiting for Bugs

Growing up I used to shrimp in Savannah, no bait allowed. Making my first Charleston baiting trip this weekend. I generally put the boat in at Legare or Folly.
Is the Stono inlet any good for big bugs this time of year?
Should I just put in closer to the harbor?
Also, I have spent time around Fort Johnson and it seems like a decent area, any thoughts?

Any other advice for a greenhorn is very appreciated. Will be sure to follow up with a report afterwards.

Only tried stono inlet once. no luck. You will probably have more luck in the harbor. just look for other boats. If you are baiting, no need to start until dusk. good luck.

OccamsRaiser you were dead on with the dusk tip. They definitely showed up then, but only then.

Low Tide:5:45 Sunset:7:07

Left from Sol Legare and headed towards Stono Inlet. Set up on the southern side of the sound. Fished 5 poles til 30 minutes after dusk, 3 passes. Not much water moving, really clear water, caught about 100 pinfish but only a few small shrimp.

Moved to the other side of the sound (windblown side) and set up with the last of our bait, 5 small balls on 5 poles. 3ft deep, 100 ft off the bank, bank had oysters and points, semi clear water with current. Started catching some large ones with a few jumbos mixed in. Anywhere between 5-10 per cast. Ended with about 10 quarts, 10 ish pounds.

Next time: Bring enough bait or stick with a spot. Set poles on an easy drift.
