Baiting Season

Anybody know why DNR is starting the season a week early again? It was always the Friday before the 15TH including the 15 TH. My tags are marker for the 7TH.

The 7th is ‘the last Friday on or before the 15th.’

Growing old is MANDATORY, Growing up is OPTIONAL!

Mudball I must be looking at the wrong calendar. Mine shows the 14th being the last Friday before the 15th. I’ll look again.

You are correct, but they changed it up a week for some reason this year.

If you look at this link http://www.dnr.sc.gov/regs/shrimp/shrimpregs.html , they still have the 2016 dates listed and also say that it starts “…at noon on the last Friday on or before September 15”.

But SECTION 50-5-1100 (Article 11) of the Code of Laws says “The department shall establish annually a sixty-day open season between September 1 and November 15 for taking shrimp over baited areas.”

There’s no mention of “the last Friday on or before the 15th” so I guess that the DNR can kind of do what they want.
