Baiting your poles?

To all of you that cooler out quickly this question is directed at you. I use to bait my poles with two to three LARGE bait balls until I ran into a nice wise old man. He told me that smaller and more bait balls are way better and provide more coverage for netting the shrimp. How big and how many bait balls do you put per pole? What pattern do you try to do? I now throw 5-6 balls per pole about the size of a hokey puck. I also do a pattern like a baseball diamond with a pitching mound essentially. I throw an 8’ net and try to keep it tight enough to hit all baits.

Just looking for advice. Do I throw a few more baits and spread them out. When the shrimp are there I will get 20-25 on good throws when its hot.

Thanks for any suggestions!

nice thick hamburger patties. 2 per pole using red/orange consruction site clay. if they run good I throw one more after I pull net in while leaving that pole I just threw on. bait about 3 to 4 ft from pole. adjust where you throw based on how strong the current is for sure.

Yep…if the shrimp are there, one or two balls is really enough. I’ve caught 20-30 a pole with 1 or 5 bait balls…
and one the rare over the top events…100-200 with 1-3 balls. The best ever was 2/3 of a cooler in 4 throws with a 10ft net
in 4 ft of water (center BB). It’s all about the shrimp being there…or rather you being where they are.
