Bamboo push/stake out pole

Anyone had some experience making one? I read that heating them up until they turn a brownish color makes them extremely strong. Seems like a great inexpensive push pole.

Those 8 foot green garden stakes sold at Home Depot seem to be a cheap solution for about $7. Have a metal core inside. Thats what most people recommended to me.

Those wooden broom sticks, like used on long push brooms would make good anchor pins. Sharpen a point in one end, and drill a hole in the other. Make a short paracord leash with a carabiner and fasten to pole.

I totally second the call on broomsticks and paracord or bungee. I was getting splinters from mine, so I recycled some throw-away bike inner tubes from Mikes Bikes in Mt P and worked them over the end of mine to get a better grip on it. To make a point, I just cut at @45deg angle with my circular saw. Lasts a few months, floats, and makes a great fire pit poker when it’s beat up from oysters.

Adustable painter pole, I think I paid $9 for it at Lowes. Goes from 6’ to 10’.

The painter’s pole are galvanized steel - they rust inside quickly. For about $16 you can get a golfball retreiver at a sporting goods store (aluminum) telescope to 12 feet. Just cut the basket off and it is pointed.

I tried out a bamboo pole @ 7ft long last week and it worked great. Just bungee’d it off the side and the hold was super solid. 5 days later and it looks none the worse and I plan to use it again tomorrow. I still like my broomstick, but this is a close second in terms of cheap.
