Band Saws?

I am an amateur woodworker, mostly woodturner. I use a band saw to cut pieces down for turning, etc. Nothing heavy-duty and not everyday use. I have a 10" Delta that is about 15 years old and while it has been serviceable, I have never really been happy with it.

I came into a little “extra” cash and want to buy a new band saw, preferably a 14". Looking at Rikon, Jet, Grizzly, Shop Fox and maybe Delta. Looking to keep it at/below $1,000. If anyone has any experiences with any of these brands, I’d appreciate your input.

Not you Peapod!

Believe it or not, that old Delta, band saw, is probably a far superior tool than any new saw for under a grand.

Sadly, newer power tools are just like everything else.

Not what they used to be…

I know what you are saying and ain’t it sad. It has worked okay but never seemed to track straight and it is a bear to replace the blade and get it aligned so it stays on. I put new tires on it last year and that helped a bit but… Also the guide bearings are shot, and Delta doesn’t sell replacements.

Oh well, I’ll give it some more thought.

Have a friend with a wood shop to drool over, he said call or text, he has some insight for you.

Check your PMs!

Thanks Barba!

How’d you come to the extra $$

The wife know?

Won a prize at the State Fair and sold a piece of work. Figure I’ll put it back into my hobby.

She is aware, she is the one that nagged me to put a piece in the fair. I should probably listen to her more.
