"Bank Roll" - Friday May 10th

Plans were to leave Lexington at 0200 and to be on the water at Remley’s in Charleston by 0430. After stopping at three “24 Hour” gas stations (that weren’t open) in search for more beer we finally made it and were on the water a little after 0500. We broke the jetties at first light in what seemed to be a real washing machine. The ride out was rough and seas were confused to say the least. The plan was to head to 226 hole as we noticed some warm water pushing in south of there the night before. We found warm water short of the hole in about 200-300 feet but decided to keep pushing on out. We dropped lines in finally around 0900 in 1000 feet of water around 77 degrees. We hooked up with our first fish around 0930 in 1100 feet. We kept working out slowing getting all the way to 1600 feet at some point during the day. The water temps were anywhere between 76-79 degrees most of the day. At some point soon after lunch we made the U Turn and headed back in trolling from 1600 ft all the way back to about 300 feet. All in all a good day, we ended up with 16 dolphin and missed 5 or so others on short strikes. We never really had a double, we would just pick up a random fish here and there every 20-45 mins throughout the day. Never really found weeds and most came in clean deep water. We did stop on the way back at a HUGE weed patch in about 140 ft of water to drop a few lines. There was about 10-15 very small dolphin under it that we had fun with for about 30 mins before picking up and heading back on what was finally a nice ocean.

We left Lexington at 2:30, home at 12:00. Makes for a long day but fun.

What part of Lexington are you all in and where do you normally put in? It’s always good to know of other people locally.
