Well, we did it again…
Friday I made the calls to all the local BARF participants to fish the High Tide Saturday from 11:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M.
Five anglers, CrackerYak, SemperFish, Outback Dave, Stevo and Shaun [Not a forum member, yet!], joined me at the same place as the two previous BARF Impromptu trips, and we explored the grasses and flats in search of Redfish…
Conditions were PERFECT, no wind, glass smooth, low clouds and weather in the mid 60’s… The sound of jumping mullet in the grasses quickly reached out ears promising excellent fishing… The facts were different, as the fishing was tough… SemperFish was the only successful angler long distance releasing a Rat Redfish at kayak side, and landing two smaller flounder (13" and 14"), the latter invited home to Crisco Bay.
CrackerYak, Outback Dave and I spent the majority of the time exploring the vast flats, learning the high tide lay of the land, and looking for the schools of Redfish… We never found the schools, but did find some promising places for later in the year when individual fish will be tailing in the flats… We also found some promising places for flounder when they arrive in greater numbers this spring.
Plans are to return again this Saturday, as the weather looks promising, and the tides should be excellent for a mid day low tide, which should provide us the oportunity to target the huge school we found the first time out there.

glad y’all are getting out to enjoy this weather. Hopefully, I’ll try the yak this weekend for reds.
Ever think about targeting the trout?
Bosch is in bad times… looks like we will be pulling out of the trip this May, Troy.
LEt me know when you cancel, so I can swoop in and grab the site.
I am having to cut back this year too, and that trip is cheap enough, and has the most potential for the buck.

Those who can’t fish, spend too much on seafood!
I was interested in your post Yak. i have been trying to find out if there are good grass flats that are not to far a paddle in the area. I try and fish with my Dad as often as I can and he is not exactly in the type of shape to be striking out on long paddles. I know that everybody wants to keep spots secret and I understand that, i would just like to get to take my Dad out to see the reds tailing this summer. We went once with a guide and he had a ball catching his first red, but that was well north of the IOP marina and way to far for him to paddle. Thanks so much for the help.

Mountgain Guy,
If you and your father want to come down to Beaufort, I can show you LOTS of flats within a short paddle from shore… Areas that see little to no powerboat traffic due to their distance form traditional launches and shallow water hazards.

Man that would be Awesome!! I pretty much flyfish only, but he uses spinning rods and that would be so cool. I actually have a uncle who has a fish camp down there near Beaufort. I really would appreciate it! I will be on the forum pretty regular till summer. We have only had kayaks for about 8 months now and I love fishing from it. Thanks again
