With the success of the first BARF Impromptu on 13 DEC 2008, and a very favorable time for a low tide at 10 a.m., I decided to schedule BARF Impromptu Part Duex for this morning.
The participation this week was twice last week, with 8 anglers arriving for the chance to find the school from last week… Present were Fishone1, CrackerYak, S1tPilot, YakontheFly, and four others not active on Kayak fishing forums…yet! Justin, Jeff, Doyle and Mike (Not sure of the name on this one, guest of S1tPilot).
The weather was overcast with an approximately 10 knot breeze from the west. We all launched around 8 a.m., and arrived at the designated flats about 15-20 minutes later. There was no sign of the school from the previous week, but lots of baitfish finger mullet.
We scattered in an attempt to find the school as the last of the tide went out, to no avail… Justin and Jeff did see a flounder leap from the water along an oyster bar, but could not get it to bite.
The tide turned, and Jeff had to head back in for the day, due to a previous commitment. The rest of us fished for another hour or so after Jeff left, but still not even a nibble… No signs of anything bigger than a finger mullet. [:0]
Around 11 am, I was forced to leave due to a previous committment made by my wife… ARGH!!!
It was only after I left, that Fishone1 caught this nice Redfish… Notice the Lip Gripper Santa got him two weeks early!
Suffice it to say, we will be having more of these BARF Impromtu gatherings from here on out.
