Barf report

Thursday: As I was pulling over the harbor turn bridge, saw the pilot guy fishing. I set my camp up, then went back to meet him. St1pilot got a few keeper trout and many u/s and a 30" red. I landed 6-8 u/s trout.
Friday met Steve at Lagoon… I got 1 nice trout around 17", 1/2 dozen u/s. I believe, can’t be sure 1 each u/s spottail, flounder. He got many keepers… I’ll let him tell ya.
Saturday, met Steve, Beerbuzz, Crackeryak, Brian… and couple others. I got 16" spottail, 4-5 u/s flounder and 1 keeper trout (17"), 4-5 u/s.
As I was packing up Troy stopped by to BS, then Steve stopped by… says he caught 7 keepers … (should have fished with him)>

Had a great time, weather was great… just wish the tout had been more plentiful and bigger.

Troy and I had a good discussion about next year. Thinking we would like to get a few of ya’ll to commit/ reserve campsites close together and do a cookout there. Looks like we got about 4 right now. I know its a long time off, but the only downside is that you have to cancel, and it’s only a 10$ penalty.

Fished the lagoon on Fri with Cut and landed several trout and one u/s flounder, but decided to fish a little closer to the house for the BARF. Ended the day with 6 red’s, 8 trout and the biggest Blue that I have ever caught. Hooked 2 reds that took off and the drag was screaming and was never even able to turn them. Hit all my flouder holes but was not able to get a single flounder.

Troy did a good job as usual and I would like to thank him for all the effort he put into the BARF again. Too be honest I’m not sure why he keeps doing this considering he goes into his pocket every year and it cost him to put on the BARF. We need to start building this up for next year and make sure we get more participation and make this an even better event.

What Cutmullet failed to mention was my other plan for future BARF events…

Instead of a single day in November, my thought is to have pre-registration and start on November 1st, and allow the whole month of November for the “Tourney”.

Simply put, you would sign up in September/October, and be able to fish as often as you can, and try to catch the largest Lowcountry Slam. Photo’s would require submission for verification… My thought is either SCKF or here hosting the pictures. I would send you a official measuring stick with the appropriate years identifying medallion when you send in the registration fee, which would be kept low ($20-25), since there would be no Frogmore Stew dinner to plan. All I would have to do is order T-Shirts, which when I have an exact number, I could do without risking ordering too many and having to pay for them myself, as in the past two years…

The fact that only 10 people participated this year, only 2/5th of last years entries, has me more than a little perturbed. I anticipated a similiar number to last year, and budgetted accordingly. Needless to say, I have over 20 t-shirts remaining, which will become expensive rags…

Good news, is I have two local artists who have already committed to providing art work for prizes. Trust me, the winner of this years tourney took something home that cost more than all three of last years prizes, and is something he has stated he will put on his wall proudly. It was a VERY nice limited edition, signed, matted and framed print…

Let me know if you would be willing to participate in such an event… The month long tourney, and/or in the Hunting Island Camping and Kayak Fishing Jamboree that Cutmullet has suggested.

Sure on the T-shirt… Asking what I paid… $7.00 each, I have Med, Large, X-Large and 2XL sizes available…

Getting them to you, could be a minor issue, as I live in Beaufort, but that can be maneuvered around. I might be in Edisto in a couple of weeks.

Good News:

Just counted the final funds collected… I was able to sell several extra shirts…

I am only out the cost of printing flyers and the Fish Rulers. Food and T-Shirts costs are recovered. (Thanks in part to donations by S1tPilot and Justin at the awars dinner.) Not as bad as I thought.

However, that still means no funds remain for the charity I was going to send this too…

I will be making a check to the charity for $100.00 on my own. If anyone else is interested in doing likewise, pm me and I will give you the details for the charity.

Now to plan for next year, and get this ball rolling… We will need to reserve 4 or 5 sites by next month, if we want to ensure we get them all closely located… Veteran’s Day Weekend is the best bet to try for, best chance for a combination of decent weather and decent fishing. Since Cutmullet and I can only reserve one each, we will need two or three others to commit the $50.00 fee and make the reservations, to make this happen.

Cutmullet, could you link the site and specific sites… I drove around, and those ones you mentioned looked to be small, close together and too visible to the rest of the campsite. Suggest we stick with our original plans, as those are much better sites.

So much water, So little time

Troy, I don’t know how to put a map on here… I talked to Mud last night and Beer today, there in. Lets wait a month (when we can do it) and you put the map up here:)

I talked to Paddling4Reds today, and he was VERY INTERESTED… As would be S1tPilot… Perhaps 6 sites, just in case…

Here is a link to the Map… Sites 124-130 would be what we would want to secure.

Wish I could of fished this past weekend, and the next, and the next, and so on! Oh well, #$%& happens. Looks like I’ll be ready next fall though! Looking forward to a fun weekend of fisfin and seeing who gets the bragging rights.

Mud

Since Veteran’s Day is Wednesday next year, which weekend do we want to do this?

The weekend prior (6-8 Nov) or the weekend after (13-15 Nov)

The reason I ask is two fold… One, The Marines have their ■■■■ Ball around this time of year, and I know of several fishermen who couldn’t make it this year for that reason… Two, the Georgia Kayak Fishers are showing interest already, and at least one wants to reserve a campsight for the whole week.

I would suggest the latter of the two weekends, especially since it would likely be a little cooler, meaning th Seatrout should be more aggressive and abundant.

Let’s keep in mind what is really important here, the best chance to catch quality fish. Just this once, Troy, I’m gonna agree with you.

Mornin’;
…here’s some info to aid in your decision making. The Marine Corps Ball should be on the 6th and 7th. Birthday is on the 10th.
Tides for Hunting Island on:
Sat. Nov 7th./ Low tide 4:41am -0.15’, Sunrise 6:44, High Tide 11:07am +7.18’.

Sat. Nov 14th/ High tide 5:35am +7.31’, Sunrise 6:50, Low Tide 11:50am 0.16’.

…any days are good for me (pending work emergencies:roll_eyes:)…I do prefer fallin’ tides

a.k.a. "X-Fishin’ "

Darn,

Looks like tides and dates are going to cause problems next year… High Tide early on the weekend of the 14th means low tides at mid day… and rising tides as it gets dark… :face_with_head_bandage:

However, the later date (better fishing), and no conflict with Jarhead Ball, means that would be the better weekend…

So, unless anyone objects by Sunday, the weekend of the 14th it will be!

First of all thanks to Troy for not only running the event but also for making me feel very welcomed. It was nice to meet the couple of you that I got to meet on Friday. Sorry I did not make it for boil on Saturday. Maybe if I’d caught more than a couple of puny reds I would have forced the ride back up there.

In any event, as I told Troy - I haven’t really been able to get together with anybody here in the HHI/Bluffton area to fish with, so if anyone is going to fish the Beaufort area and wants a fishing partner please feel free to email me. btown.sc@gmail.com

I don’t fish weekends too often because a)too many idiot boaters in this area and b)I work most weekends.

I am impressed with the level of coversation about next years event and am looking forward to see what comes of it. If I can be of some help, please feel free to contact me.

With those tides…I would say the weekend of the 7th would be the better choice.

Mud

Thus the dilemna…

Schedule for the weekend of the 7th and lose participants to the Jarhead Drunkfest  and have better tides, or schedule it a week later and have more participation at the BARF drunkfest at the Park but unfavoreable tides…
