Baseball Scrimmage

Shot the third day of baseball scrimmages this past weekend in Columbia. The 3 holes that need to be filled (SS, 2nd and 3rd) have some talent coming into them. They aren’t quite on Wingo and Morales’s level yet, but they have the potential to fill their shoes and make it to Omaha. Again, if y’all want only outdoor photos in the forum, just let me know and I’ll take them down.

Thanks for looking,
Richard

Keep them up. Nice pics. Just keep the orange and purple pics to yourself though…

Hey Richard, these are great photos…please elaborate on your lens, camera, and maybe some of the settings used for these photos…(Fstop and shutter speed)
As far as I am concerned, this forum is for photography for anything under or above the rainbow.

Thanks for sharing. . .

Jeff

Appreciate the compliments, gents. As for the gear, Jeff, all taken with:

Canon 1d mark II | Canon 300mm f/2.8 (non-is) + 1.4x teleconverter

I will shoot completely manual about 95% of the time, but with the constant movements that I was making and the light changes, I was forced to shoot in Av mode (aperture priority) for most of the day. Because all of the guys were wearing dark shirts, I pulled down the exposure bias by 1/3 of a stop in Av mode (bolded) to compensate for the camera over-exposing the shirt because it was darker than the white pants. Blown out pants can ruin a picture. Here are the specs for one of the pictures.

Camera Maker: Canon
Camera Model: Canon EOS-1D Mark II
Lens: 300.0 mm
Image Date: 2012-01-29 15:16:26 (no TZ)
Focal Length: 420mm
Aperture: f/4.5
Exposure Time: 0.0003 s (1/3200)
ISO equiv: 320
Exposure Bias: -0.33 EV
Metering Mode: Matrix
Exposure: aperture priority (semi-auto)
White Balance: Auto
Flash Fired: No (enforced)
Color Space: sRGB
GPS Coordinate: undefined, undefined

With the teleconverter attached, the f/2.8 lens goes from a max aperture of f/2.8 to a max of f/4. I closed the aperture down 1/3 stop, aka went from f/4 to f/4.5, because this is an older lens, and when attached with a teleconverter, is a little soft wide open.

In baseball, I prefer to have a minimum shutter speed of 1/2000 or faster in order to stop the baseball mid-pitch/swing. And, because it was so bright out, I was able to lower my ISO setting to 320 in order to reduce noise.

If you knew about what I’ve said above, I apologize. By no means am I trying to demean you; just trying to explain everything in as much detail as possible. Hope it helps and feel free to ask anything further!
