Basmaster Elites making the LONG run

The first day of competition of the Bassmaster Elite Series out of Winyah Bay starts tomorrow. Several out of the 110 boat field will elect to fish up the Cooper which is over 100 miles from the Sampit River where they take off. This will only leave them less than 4 hours to fish considering fueling up time. If you guys see some boats in the next 4 days going through the Intracoastal that look way out of place, you are not going nuts.

Saw one spitting mud out of his motor today on the side of the waterway. He was to cool to even acknowledge us. Red, right, return when you are heading south on the ICW

Down here is where a signature goes but they can confuse and anger some people so I don’t have one.

There should be lots of hilarity in the tv footage in a few weeks. Did you see who the guy was who ran aground?

Saw two of them headed up the Cooper today going about 70. One of them caught pretty good air on a container ship wake.

Next few days should be like watching boat races in the harbor. Hope they and other folks are careful.

Absolutely, unless bad t-storms. Wind will not usually shut a tournament down in that area because the anglers have places to go up the rivers from Georgetown that will be relatively blocked off from the wind.

Saw where one guy said he burned 120 gallons of fuel in one day of practice

Small craft advisory won’t affect those guys. Running 72 to 76 mph will ride right on top of those waves

It’s turning out to be one of the worst venues for a BASS event. 10 pounds a day will cut a huge check. I wonder how much money Georgetown is throwing at these tournament circuits. Next week is a Southern Redfish Cup (50-75 boats). The week after is a SC CBC bass tourney with 125+ boats (normally there would be 175+). After that is an IFA Redfish Tour. Where are all these people supposed to stay?

that’s a good question. myrtle’s beach?

Good bags being caught 20lbs a day is solid even for the elite guys

Nobody caught 20 lbs. 19-11 in the lead, then it drops off to 16-8 to 14. 10-11 lbs. is in top 10-18. That is WEAK! Weights will go DOWN from day 1 except the guys running to the Cooper where they will have an extra hour to fish as compared to today because of the 1 hour delay. What do you consider a good bag?

Dam that rough when you catch 1 bass, but it happens to be 9lbs?!

Yep, 1 fish 8 lb. 9 oz. puts you in 42nd place. 2 dinks tomorrow will put John M. in the money. Awesome fishery!

Your right I didn’t look to far down apparantly. Biggest bag I’ve caught in the river in a tournament is 17 lbs. which is decent for a 3 hr tournament I think. Weights won’t necessarily go down. If they figure out the spawning fish staged in the river a 30lb bag is very possible

Which river?

Saw two today on the waterway in Socastee. Heard one screaming way before we ever saw him.

The other was fishing a little slew where were working. He was flipping two rods with different baits switching every other cast. Watched him make about a dozen flips, throw on his life jacket, motor about 25 yards, throw his jacket down and start flipping again. He was covering ground.

With less than 4 hours to fish, I can assure you no angler will have 30 pounds. They will be lucky to catch 15 pounds which will put them in contention for day 3.
