Bass pro shop. gear guard. We'll see

October i bought a Minn Kota ulterra. And purchased the gear guard. Which extends the warranty & and covers damages. Even if you do something stupid. Which I did. Caught a little red. Raised the power pole. Don’t know why. And was measuring and taging the fish. drifted head on into a piling. Fortunately the motor took the hit. Did not hurt my boat. Sheared three of the mounting bolts. Bent the frame and cracked housing. And sounds real bad now when it deploys. Had to make appointment with the service manager At Bass pro. Wife took it by at 10 this morning. Expecting to have it replaced. They said they would have to check it out. And would let us know in a day or two. So why the appointment. It’s obvious by just looking at it. not reasonable to think it can be repaired. I’ll be back home tomorrow and I will stop by and find out what’s going on. Last time I had to deal with the service manager at Bass pro. It was over a power pole with a factory warranty. They told me I had to leave the boat with them to repair it. I told him I would just bring him the pump/motor. He told me it would void the warranty. I installed it. he said it didn’t matter if I removed it it would void the warranty. Called Powerpoll. customer service rep said it was the motherboard They sent me a new 1. The customer service rep gave me his extension. & told me if I had any problems to call him . Excellent customer service!!! I’ll update the outcome of the trolling motor.

Not looking good for the home team. I was told. They have to document and photograph damages & Send it off. And of course thay have not gotten to it yet. no answers. Excep if thay decide to repair it that it would be 2-3 weeks.If thay have the parts in stock. Started this last Thursday. Making phone calls to gear guard. number is out of service. Called bass pro several times Thursday and Friday. No one knew what to do. Monday wife went to Bass pro. And was given a appointment for 10 a.m. Thursday yesterday . Stay tuned for the soap opera.

Sounds like Bass Pro has too many customers.

Well I see where this is going. 2 calls to Bass pro. & no return call.I’ll get away from work early enough to go by tomorrow. If I don’t get any satisfaction tomorrow. I got a kid at work that’s pretty good artist with spray paint. I’ll have him paint me up a sign on a piece of plywood. Park my truck in the front row. Go hang out at the electronics counter & tell everyone what a rip-off geargard is.

For a few years I worked for a different sporting goods box store. They sold “store warranties “. They even honored a fishing combo warranty when a guy admitted his son dropped the combo overboard. Ask for the store manager.

When by Bass pro again today. They said they were preparing the estimate to send to the warranty center. He thought it important to take me in the back and show me that it had a pinched wire. And that’s why I was having problems with it deploying. After I got done laughing at him.told him electricity don’t work like water going through a water hose. And ask him about the physical damage. Was told they were getting to that. Spoke with the manager absolutely no help. Emails and phone calls. will start tomorrow to corporate. And Saturday I will be there with my sign. Camping out.

Was not able to make it to Bass pro this weekend. Had to go to Georgia this weekend. New grandson. Be in Charleston Monday and Tuesday. hopefully Wednesday I can get by there.

Thanks to the wife. The home team finally win’s one. Wife called directly to gearguard. Sent them pictures & and explain the damage. The lady at gearguard said she would contact Bass pro. And for us to go pick up a new motor. Won’t be able to get by there till Wednesday. So I don’t have it in my hot little hands yet. But do have an email from gear guard and a contact # .

Took a long lunch went and picked up my motor today. They kind of get you the way they do it. They issue you a gift certificate for the value of the motor. Then you have to go back and purchase it again. So thay get you a little bit. you have to pay sales tax on it.& I want ahead and bit the bullet and bought the gear guard on it. Even though it was aggravating. I did get a motor replaced that I screwed up doto my stupidity. Bass pro shop customer service leaves a lot to be desired. But the warranty company was great. When my wife called them and sent the pictures.the lady called back within an hour and had everything straightened out. get home tonight grab a cold beer and install it. And might even lay out of work tomorrow and go fishing. Life is good.
