Not sure where to put this but,
Does anyone know the status of the bass pro in n. Charleston?
Heard they backed out…again.

Have you ever been to a Cabelas? The brand new one in Charlotte sucks BIG time for a brick and morter retail. WAY over priced for junk. The terminal tackle selections are the worst. After cabelas, I started like BPS better based on comparison…

I wouldn’t expect a Cabela’s in Charlotte to have a ton of saltwater tackle and trinkets. Perhaps a store that’s on the coast will have a better selection. Isn’t Cabela’s more geared towards hunting and freshwater stuf anyways?

BPS is in Concord and has tons of stuff. Cabelas is basically bankrupt and they are constructing smaller stores… They put it next to Carowinds for traffic count…

I hadn’t heard that.
If Academy is still planning on putting a store here, they’re better than BPS in my opinion.
Gander Mountain is underwhelming, haven’t heard about Cabelas. Heard Sports Authority was closing (they were pitiful anyways).

The big bro country retailers are dying a slow death. I buy right on-line with stuff they do not carry. Logistics and the internet will be the end of brick and mortar shops such as these type of retailer. Their private brand do not cause pause for me. I walk the BPS in NC once a week, hardly ever buy, just look…

Yes I’ve been in Cabelas. Previously lived in Augusta which got a cabelas last year. Bought plenty of stuff from there. Personally, I think the quality of BPS branded stuff is just a slight step above walmart. Neither, or any of those type stores are priced really well if you shop around online. But the convenience of picking something up NOW is worth it sometimes instead of waiting on shipping. At least Cabelas backs their stuff with good service if/when something goes wrong.
And I also agree with the above, Academy is better than BPS too IMO.
I heard they were putting a new 150,000sq ft HPT in north chuck…
lol, just messing around guys
The new Gander Mountain on Rivers has an exceptional fishing section that makes a Bass Pro useless to me at this point. Although I do frequent our local tackle shops as much as possible, Gander Mountain has items on their shelves that I was only able to order directly from manufactures on internet.
I personally find large stores such as Bass Pro, Cabellas, and Gander Mountain the most useful for looking at rods. I’m sure that many will agree with me that it’s tough to buy a rod until you have had a chance to hold it in your hands.
This is part of a Cabelas news release from three days ago.
SIDNEY, Neb. – (BUSINESS WIRE) – Jul. 23, 2015 – Cabela’s Incorporated (NYSE:CAB), the World’s Foremost Outfitter? of hunting, fishing and outdoor gear, announced today plans to bring the company’s unique retail experience and legendary customer service to Summerville, S.C., and the greater Charleston area.“Cabela’s expects construction on the 82,000-square-foot store to begin in 2015, and anticipates a fall 2016 opening. It will be located in Nexton, near Interstate 26 and Highway 17A, between Exit 199 and the new Exit 197. MeadWestvaco is the developer.”
BPS sucks. I got a 25.00 gift card for Christmas that I haven’t been able to use yet because I can’t find anything I actually want from there. They seem to only be making their own brand of junk these days. Every time I think about using the gift card, I look up what I want to buy only to find they don’t sell it.
I really wish I had a HPT gift card or one from a store I could actually buy something not made in China…

I was real excited when they built one in Savannah, but I’ve been in there a half dozen times and never bought much of anything. I’ve also got a gift card that’s at least 2 2/12 years old, don’t see anything much worth buying, haven’t used it. Wonder if they have an expiration. All of my cheap T-shirts are covered with epoxy and paint. I might could get 1 for $25.

They will be soon opening the new Field and Stream in Tanger. I don’t know anything about them, so not sure how good it will be.

Don’t spend a lot of time looking at the “made in” stickers on most fishing gear, do ya?

90% of the better fishing gear is made and sold in countries that are not USA.
Field and Stream is indeed owned and operated by Dick’s Sporting goods so do not expect some crazy great store, just standard sporting good’s store geared towards sportsman.
Cabela’s is nowhere near bankrupt but in fact the opposite. Over the past 4 years they have tripled in stock market value until past year where they had a drop in value (similar to most retail stocks that are not technology related)
Please do not post stupid things if have no idea what the actual facts are people, thank you.
Most fishing gear is from overseas…but I emphasize most. You can bet though that the local stores carry more American made products than the chain stores, as many of the smaller “made in USA” bait/rod companies will not do business with the chain stores due to lack of knowledge of their product…
