Tied up some gurglers last night and decided to head to the pond to try some topwater action this morning. Needless to say - the bite was on!
Second cast ended with this solid 3+ lb. fish - not the norm for this pond …
He was fooled by this fly - a yellow/black gurgler that I decorated with a Sharpie…
Switched to a different color and it got creamed on the first cast. Fish jumped off, so moved to a different area and landed this guy in just a few casts (much more of the common size for the pond)…
Got him on this one - a black/red gurgler with smaller foam…
Switched again and was not disappointed, landing this little guy…
on a yellow/red gurgler, seen here…
Switched again, this time to a Dahlberg, but no dice. Fished the entire pond and didn’t have a single blow-up. It had warmed up some, so I don’t know if it was the heat that shutdown the bite, or if they just didn’t want that fly. Either way - a great morning! I’ve fished this pond several times with topwater lures on spinning gear and have NEVER had as much action as quickly as I did this morning. Good times…
