On a good note, it re-opens Jan. 1st

Well that just killed my Sunday.

A wise man once said “Do as I say not as I do” Good advice when I tell you that.

There can be no logical reason for this closure, except NOAA decided to throw their weight around.

Ummmmmm whatttttttttt? That sucks bigtime

Yeah, when grouper closes... Who wants to go offshore in January to chase triggers?

yea i saw that

show us some REAL data to back up this BS claim…How about it Mark??? Where and how did this magic number come from? I have NEVER had a creel survey, and I am willing to bet that nobody on here has either. Porgies and triggers closed to rec fisherman…absolute BULL! New faces same bull#$%^!

no one has ever asked me how many pounds we caught? and they have it to a one pound figure like they know something. We arent as stupid as they look!

Oh yes we are.

That’s what you guys get for posting all of those pictures in the “How to catch all the triggers in the ocean” thread. SAFMC was lurking in the shadows and SHUT IT DOWN. Happy Thanksgiving!

Do not tell fish stories where the people know you; but particularly, don’t tell them where they know the fish.

Who do we demand tell us how these numbers were obtained? I don’t go offshore much anymore, but do associate with a lot that do. I know of no one that was checked.

Does anyone on this site know of anyone in S.C. that had their catch of triggers weighed?

Looking to go Saturday and I really look forward to Triggerfish in the skin on the grill.

Thanks for posting Gut Wrench. Would have been ignorant to this new B.S. legislation.

Touche, you saying SAFMC used our pictures to guess weight?

There is a lot more pot brought in than triggers

I’m going out Sunday myself. Black sea bass, B-Liner, gag, and scamp are still open. Wont let something like a triggerfish closure get in my way. And the weather looks decent.

Here are two links to how data is collected.

That was mostly in jest. I’m sure they have a Bull**** formula and a standard catch rate that they plug n chug.

It won’t keep me from fishing, but I don’t like my rights infringed on with out some serious good reason.

I just can’t believe they know Trigger population is being hurt by recreational fishing.

Gotta create a crisis and shut it down so they can come back later and say they saved the triggers.

We have found there to be no lack of them on our trips. Also, have never been checked or surveyed about it either. Fuzzy Math at it’s best.

I’m not against fishery management, but grabbing numbers out of thin air is ridiculous!

I was sure hoping things woukd start to sway our way with recent additions to the board,i guess i was mistaken…

Shame on all of you for creating these crisis and abusing your power…

Next to black sea bass this has got to be the stupidest closure ever…

One of the calmest days ever on the ocean and not another fishing boat in site, there is no over fishing going on,since 08 the amount of offshore fishing has decreased…prime example, over 100 boats in my marina, how fished out of there yesterday,me,thats it all the rest sat tied up…been that way for awhile…
The few days we can actually go are far and few between…

So now they have divided the charter guys and the recreational bottom guys and the offshore guys and the commercial guys. And you think PETA, pew, etc. are stupid?furthermore, say what you want, but our DNRmanagement is right there with their hands out.

Realfin I would hope this isn?t dividing “recreational bottom guys and the offshore guys and the commercial guys” Yes the plan is always divide and conquer but I haven?t seen anything that says we are divided. Where the division is, is between the fishing community and the South Atlantic Fishery Management Council who in my opinion has done a poor job collecting data (or at least telling how they collected the data and from whom) to support any decisions they have made when it comes to knee jerk closures. I have been doing some reading from their web site and the slide show that tells how the retrieve data has dates from 1983 through 1993. Tells me if your presentation material is out of date so is your actual data. One work that did catch my attention was “Quantifiable”. I work analyzing data for a living and that is the new buzz word. And we all know about numbers…
