I need some battery help?.the battery on our 17ft cc was removed without permission sometime last week, while we were out of town. I need to purchase a new one. The problem is, I don’t remember what size battery it was so I don’t know what size to buy: 24, 800; 24, 550; 29, 675? Too many numbers for me! The boat has a 90hp yamaha and basic electronic needs (radio, lights. depth/fishfinder). Can someone help?? the only good news to this is that the battery that was ‘borrowed’ was 4 yrs old, so I would have had to buy a new one soon anyway.
thanks!!
If it is a 2 stroke (90D), the manual says the requirements are:
Cold cranking amps (CCA) - 380.0 A
Minimum marine cranking amps (MCA/ABYC) - 502.0 A
Minimum reserve capacity (RC/SAE) - 124 minutes
All of these numbers are on the battery. Just look for a battery that meets these minimum requirements and will fit in the space provided. You can go someplace like Wal-Mart and look for yourself or you can go somewhere like Auto Zone and the folks there will gladly help.

I always buy the biggest battery that will fit! i think I need the reserve. Yesterday morning I went out to the boat shed to hook up my striper boat to go fishing and noticed the lights on in my CC shrimp boat were on , had’nt been in that boat for weeks but the battery was still up to turn motor over, it has a group 31. I think you need all the battery you can get in this cold weather!

I second the thought of getting as much battery as you can fit into the boat.
I personally like the Interstate Marine Cranking batteries myself.
Minimum 850CCA.
Main thing is get a “Marine” cranking battery and stay away from the “dual-purpose” batteries or deep-cycle for the cranking battery. The Automotive batteries can’t take the pounding that a boat delivers and a deep-cycle just don’t provide the surge amps needed for starting.
