I apologize if this has been posted a hundred times, but my search function never seems to work. I installed a new radio in the boat. Everything worked great when I used the boat every few days. I let it sit for 1 week, and dead battery. I blamed it on my wife for leaving the accessory switch on. Missed the tide I was shooting for but got on the water. 1 week later, double checked the switch and dead battery. I narrowed the drain down to the the radio. I have the constant power (memory wire) hooked to constant power and the main power switch hooked to an accessory switch. Double checked it, radio only turns on with accessory switch on. Hooked memory wire to acc switch and no draw, but no memory. Anybody ever had this problem? I guess I’ll just get a main battery switch, but I’d like to figure out the presets if possible.
Every boat with a battery should have a cut off switch. That being said, any good marine battery will run a radio for weeks. You probably have a bad ground somewhere. No radio will kill a good battery in a week.

Just for peace of mind, I keep my memory (yellow I think) and Power (red) tied together on the ac switch. For me…I really don’t need memory, clocks, or programmed channels on the boat. I’f I’m listening to music, it’s generally my phone or ipod. If I need a radio station, I know where to find it and I certainly don’t need it to keep time. Just my 2 cents.

I agree, and have been thinking I should get one for a while now. Just needed that push I guess. Thanks for the help everyone. If I can ever stop working on the boat, I’ll start fishing sometime.
I used to have to charge my battery every week when I left the battery switch left ON, even though everything was turned off, including electronics removed, all toggles turned off, key hung up in the kitchen.
I finally started turning off the battery and I’ve not had any more dead battery issues. It’s a small PITA.
