Thought I would “get some” advice from you’ll. I need to replace both trolling motor (Minn Kota Rip Tide 80lb 24V) batteries. Also would you use the same battery for main engine? I do have a charging/tending system set up for both batteries. Your thoughts and advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
Are you saying that the same battery or batteries run the trolling motor and start your main motor? Or are you intending to use the same model battery for both? Forgive me if I’m telling you something you already know. The trolling battery is typically a deep cycle battery intended for many cycles of charging and draining while the starting battery is intended to provide plenty of cold cranking amps so different technology for different applications. So, no, I wouldn’t recommend using the same battery for both jobs.
There are a couple threads on here from the last few months on the subject.
Chris V at Charleston Marine installed my I Pilot, battery and charger. The charger is mounted in the under deck storage next to the battery. It’s made by Minn Kota and matched to that battery. It works great. I just run an extension cord to the boat and plug it in to charge.
All that said, I recently replaced both my trolling battery and starting marine battery. I went with Durcell for both and got them at Sam’s Club. If you don’t have a trade in core it’s $5 extra. Both batteries have performed as intended so far but I’ve had them only a couple of months.
You need a cranking battery for your outboard and deep cycle batteries for your TW. I wouldn’t recommend using your TM batteries for a cranking battery. I went to Batteries Plus (got 10% off for purchasing online) and picked them up in the store. The Duracell batteries they use are made by the same plant that makes Deka. If you really want Deka, you can order them from Lowes.

Thanks guys. Pitviper I just found the same deal. Duracell ultra deep cycle (SL124MDC) $80.00ea plus 10% online order discount. Going to order them today. They had great reviews and can’t really beat the price. Sorry about posting subject matter that may have been previously discussed. I did look in search for battery topic nothing came up?

Wamart for best price on batteries. Abuse the hell out of 'em then bring 'em back in the springtime/end of season as part of the warranty program.

I have all new Duracells in my boat and am very satisfied. If you have the room and the money, I would suggest going to a group 27 battery for your TM. A group 31 is reccomended as the best option from Minn Kota. I have 27s.
