Does anyone plan regular replacement of the cranking or deep cycle batteries regardless of performance? Mine are only 2 years old but beginning to fail to hold charge as long
It has been my experience that most batteries, auto or marine are only good for about 4 years. I change them on the boat with that schedule in mind.
Pioneer 222 Sportfish
Yamaha 250
On any boat I’ve owned, I replace every 3 years. If battery is still good it goes in an old tractor or something. In everything else the battery gets replaced when it fails. In Multiply battery units when one fails they all get replaced.
Note. I never give my battery cores to the store. Last month (I go through a lot of batteries and had a few years stockpile) I took a trailer load to Sunshine in Orangeburt… .23cents a pound and I left with $1400 in cash. Got to have a business license.
Lead Acid is 3 years for me generally.
Saw Lithiums at $350 for 50ah. Price is almost tolerable.
The first replacement I got for my boat were from Parks Auto Parts, with the twin charger they lasted for ever. I replaced them in 2008, just because.
This year I purchased 2 marine batteries from Tractor Supply, they had the most CCA , and the price was excellent.
