Bay boat choices?

Any idea what a 22 Shearwater w/ an F 250 sells for new?

Boatless

TE model prolly fully loaded w/electronics, trolling motor, and power pole in the high 50’s to low 60’s

LTZ w/T-top pushing 70k

always remember in the boating world you get what you pay for!

“second the Shearwater!! no comparison between pathfinders, rangers, or sea hunts to that of a Shearwater. just my two cents.”

With those kind of prices, I wouldn’t have two cents left to give anyone.

I am big fan of hybrid boats. I fish the Shearwater X2200. The concept is that you are getting a flats boat deck with more of a bay boat hull. I believe Pathfinder/Hewes made one as well. I don’t see many others out there, but I have really enjoyed mine. Fishing around our big open sounds puts you in some choppy stuff quite often, and I like having that extra hull for a smoother ride. Good luck in your search… tons of great boats out there.

If you can get something with the most bow room. You’ll be happy you picked that one when your shrimpin running through bad seas and it breaks the waves, pulling crabs pots, throwing a cast net, fly fishing, or just casting, especially you’ve got several kids on board and no room on the console. And personally I think pathfinders are really sweet. But my all time favorite boats are the scout winyah(with the teal hull) in a 22’ 23 or 24’ model with a 150 or 175 yammy, or the pioneer 22’ bay boat is sweet on the eyes and and has great fishability(and pulling the kids on tubeability).

There is no greater fan of fly fishing than the mud minnow.

No experience with ranger or shearwater , but my rig is half the price for about same quality, give or take. 18’ bay stealth by VIP. They have longer models with better storage, the only gripe I have on mine but I just deal with it.

ionicswing, no to hi jack thread but can you give us a review of the mk talon?

Vip bay stealth same quality as a ranger or shearwater? Not even close bud.

Didn’t say it was the same, but closer than you would think.

If you wanna spend over 60k for something (**() close(depending on model) where you could spend under/near 30k, go ahead and buy the name.

And just to clarify I mainly speak towards ranger. I don’t know shear water at all.
They make great boats, but nowadays you buy the boat and the name.

22-24ft pathfinders on boat trader for 20-30k and alot better quality then the bay stealth plus that bay stealth and the sea hunt aren’t “true” bay bays as like shearwater ranger and pathfinder

What makes a bay boat a true bayboat? I am so boat-knowledge challenged I don’t know a trolling motor plug from a drain plug.

Look at the heights of the bow on the sea hunt compared to shearwater your true bay boats will come with trim tabs and jack plates on them also! That sea hunt drafts alot more then the shearwater rangers etc Ive had a 2400 ranger bay boat in 10inchs of water and floating

A Carolina Skiff drafts 6". A Seahunt BX has built in recessed trim tabs. Jack plate is an option. I think jack plates are options on SW’s, Rangers and most anything else. A Bay Stealth floats in 10" of water. $35k or more is a bunch of money. Is anyone familiar with the point of diminishing returns?

Boatless

jack plates are standard on shearwaters and probably rangers. not sure about resell on rangers, seahunts, or bay stealth, but I just traded in my shearwater and was very happy. hopefully i’ll be as lucky with the new sled.

IMO they are a very beautiful boat vs ranger.
