I have been shopping around for a new bay boat. I have looked at several different boats and the scout winyha bay and the 2201 mako stand out the most. I have not rode in any boat yet (hope to do that this weekend) does anybody have any input good or bad. The Scout seems like an awsome ride.
the winyah is nice, drives like a jet fairly dry with about 10" draft. Just wish the made it in a 24ft version. Mine screams with a 250, about 62 before getting a little squirley. Get Brooks Oswald to built u an oversized t-top, i went without a jack plate. great livewell and rod locker storage.
The Scout is a nice boat. I would forget the Mako. Hopefully you have ridden in a Pathfinder. You wont find a sweeter bayboat out there. Also, I believe the Charleston Boat Center has thrown in the towel and has a few Shearwaters left that may be had for a song.
I had a Key West 196 Bay Reef.
I loved that boat.
It was very well layed out, and could definitely take more than I could.
Happy boatin’ y’all!!
over all I am not a huge scout fan, but the winyah seems like a great boat. I have ridden on it at the lake, but thats it. I would imagine that it and the mako are not really in the same price category, though.
Personally I would go with the PFinder, since I have had MHP products from the beginning.
Pathfinder, Scout, Triton, Champion and Ranger are the ones I keyed in on for a couple of months before I settled on a Triton 22 LTS. I don’t think you can go wrong with either one. I really do like the Triton so far though. Very stable and solid but won’t go as skinny as the Pathfinder or Scout.
there ain’t no shame in passin’ the rod
I own a Scout bay boat. It really does a great job. It has a good ride and runs fairly skinny. Scout boats to me are well made and are rally thought through in their design.![]()
I own a Bone, the Cape Island model that Pioneer now makes. Pioneer bought the molds. Wonderful ride and great looks. Makes about 55+ with the Yammie 150 HPDI. Matter of fact it is for sale at Tailwalker in Georgetown. I have too many boats and the wife likes the bigger boat.
I have a Shearwater X22 with a factory installed T-Top. Bay boat hull with a flats boat deck. This boat is perfect for everything I need in a boat. I would highly recommend it or one of the new LTSs! You will not be disappointed.

Thanks guys I have done some more looking and I think I am sold on the scout and I am going to ride in one this weekend. This will either sell it or make me start looking again. I have a back country flats boat now and I need something more family oriented.
also don’t overlook a Sea Hunt 22 BX. I almost bought one. I could have got one with a F225, leaning post, trim tabs and aluminum trailer brand new out the door for $26,500. The only problem for me was the door was in Virginia (Ed’s Marine). Marine Service Center quoted me one with a F250B (digital) for $30,000 but it had to be ordered. I love local but they were $6k-$8k higher.
there ain’t no shame in passin’ the rod
