Is the Bay Star system as good as the Sea Star System? I was in a buddy’s 20’ boat last week and loved the feel of his sea star hydraulic steering and my steering unit is a bit corroded so its time to replace. I’ve got an 18’ proline with a 115 4st Yamaha and the teleflex site says the Bay Star is sufficient, but I wonder if it is just good enough and would I expect to see the performance that his sea star system had. Is it a functional unit but not as nice or just smaller?
the baystar system should be fine in your application. persoannly, I don’t care for the baystar over hte sea star. The baystar is not as servicable as the Seastar, more of a throw away system with regards to the cylinder. Last time I rebuilt a baystar cylinder, the parts cost much more than the sea star, and the cylinder took muchc more time to disssasemble than a seastar due to corrosion and the design. If had charged fulltime for the repair, I could have sold him a new cylinder for less, I ate most of the time on the job, priced it fair, and remembered the lesson.Soem of the earlier cylinder have no parts available. Check into a Uflex system as well. There used to be a consederable price difference with Seastar, but I don’t think its as much as it once was
