Just finished replacing my HC4645H steering cylinder. After filling the system, testing it I noticed the two hydraulic lines move back and forth chafing on each other and other stuff. I called Bay Star / Sea Star and they said well that’s the way we’re making them now. The older style cylinder was stationary, it made better mechanical sense.
I told him the hydraulic lines will wear out in no time chafing on each other and where they come out of the hole located in the back seat. YEP Bay Star said
The only way to prevent excessive chafing is when you have the system apart , get some old garden hose or a smaller sized hose and install it over the hoses before hooking up to you venting tee.
Better inspect the hydraulic hoses more often.
I still saved a lot of money, new cylinder was @ $350.00, and put in in myself. The dealer probably would $1000.00 with his markup & Labor
