It was another good day on the sea. Had a great group fishing and had a lot of fun. Left Ripleys 430am headed straight out and lines in at 280’. Trolled out to 400’ and back and only picked up one dolphin. Lines in riggers up and headed back in to 190ft a little north of the outcrop right off we have a sail on. Caught him missed another. Went 1-2 on the sails for the day. Picked up a king in the mouse trap. Pretty tough day but a lot of fun. Where did all the bait go???
I keep hearing the bait being caught behind the fort.
I believe he is talking about off shore bait…
Bring on the 2-3 chop!
Good times Ryan!! Again, many thanks to you an d your father!! Cant wait to do it again soon!! Ill find the bait in the meantime…Troy

off shore bait what would the difference be…and thought the boats that was catching the bait there was going off shore O.o
where are the bait balls is maybe a better question, we marked bait all over in 200-300ft of water last week but nothing this week. Troy it was a blast im glad you and shevlin made it again and we will be at it again very soon, ill be in touch. Have a good week!!
when your offshore trolling a boiling ball of bait is the sweetest thing you can find to to drag along side of.
What about bait balls closer in, like 25 miles? One recent trip to Commanche we stopped short seeing alot of bait a couple of miles before we got to Commanche. Only thing we caught were cudas, but we didn’t circle back either. We may not have had our lines in the water before passing over them. Should we have circled back? This was the last week in July and I suspect the fish were further out anyway.
commanche is too close in, usually. The last week of July the bluewater fishing was out a good ways. If you are asking me if you shouldve circled back, yes, you might try that next time, mopre likely than not you wouldve picked up something. Maybe only Cudas like you said but get out a little deeper and find the bait and you will find sail fish.
I haven’t been finding the bait balls, but been hooking up on sails where there are a lot of fliers and blue water. We have caught about a dozen sails in the last two weeks and have not caught one deeper than 250 ft and not marking bait. I guess being in the right spot at the right time.
