Beating a dead horse

Usually I am lucky enough to not have to fish on Saturday. Got to Remley Pt. at 7 am and there was no where to park and a lot of unlaunched sailboats using parking spaces. We got in okay and got a reasonable place to park. Coming home at 3:30 was a circus. One guy with at 30 footer blocked the middle landing lane as there was no where to park his boat, one guy parked his boat in lane one while he ran off to get his car which was way down the road (he was by himself), boats:question: parked on all the docks, 6+ boats doing circles waiting to get in. With all the boats in the Charleston/Berkeley area there are not enough boat landings. There is not a usable landing in Cooper River until you get to Cypress Gardens. Just venting but why are people buying boats if there is no where to put them in, in a reasonable manner.

Honestly, if I had to regularly fool with boat launches anymore I would quit fishing. Launches are not just ridiculously overcrowded but the percentage of a-holes and idiots is just over the top now. The dry stack is expensive but worth every penny of it to me.

I thought you guys used Westvaco park primarily…

If you’re not putting in by 6 during the summer at Remeleys, its usually a fiasco and not worth the drive

We usually do but when we take my boat it won’t fit under the railroad bridge. If they could only take it down, as it is already about to fall down, all would be good for me.

Yessir, I understand. The only bad side to that is all the others that will be using the ramp then… yes I know I am being somewhat of a hater at this point, but it is crowded enough how it is, can you imagine it when that trestle does come down… oh boy…

Our 1 public boat landings for the Cooper River ( Bushy Park)is pitiful, it can’t be used half the time. Our North Charleston Mayor needs to take up boating so we can get a decent boat landing built. They say its a money issue, I would be more than happy to pay a fee for a decent boat landing. Come on North Charleston there is land available all up and down that river. We need help.

What about the landing at Filbin Creek? I seem to recall that there is a trestle that may limit boats with t-tops. I only used it twice, so I’m not sure what other barriers there may be.

Public landing are in short supply for sure. Proximity to your home is also something one has to consider for water access. I know not everyone can afford a membership at a private landing. That said, but for those that may not be familiar with all the private options out there, can someone list off a few options that folks on here might find reasonable?

I know the landing at 41 bridge on the Wando is $400 or so a year, but I believe there is a waiting list. Seems that there are some options over on SI or IOP, but that may be too far for those trailering from Berk or Dorchester counties.

Downbytheriver, Filbin creek is westvaco park, missile park, Hendricks park, Virginia ave landing…all the same place along with a slew of other not so popular names as well

Thanks, Stump. I can only imagine the names some folks might call any of our public landings. Just last week a co-worker said back in the day they used to refer to Tolers cove as Toilet cove.

Is it just me but has the boat traffic in the Wando significantly increased in the past year. Fishing around Charleston is getting less and less enjoyable each year. Just a couple weekends ago, I had a guy pull within 15 yards of where I was working a bank, anchored and began fishing. I thought about saying something but he has his kid with him and it would have probably not done any good.

He must Increase, but I must decrease. John 3:30

Yes, boat traffic way up on the Wando and everywhere else for that matter. I’m working new waters to me on the Cooper just to try to get away. I personally try my best to not fish on the weekends this time of year. Boat traffic of all kinds tends to make it a challenge to fish. 1st world problems though. Just thankful I have a boat and a place to fish.

Sold the boat. Bailing out of town. Let the terds have it, towns all ruint anyways.

The last time we ran our boat in Charleston we put in at Cashua Ferry landing on Highway 34 in Darlington SC about 6:30am and we were the only boat there.
